Artitude on Main in beautiful, downtown Greenville is the brainchild of art educator, Stacey Edwards. She has been a painter, mixed media artist and an art educator in South Alabama for over 15 years. Her 13 years as the art teacher at Greenville High School created a life-long desire to spread the arts in rural Alabama. As a GHS teacher, she produced award winning student artists that have been recognized at the state and national levels. Stacey has had four Congressional Art Award winners and two first place finalists in the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Competition, as well as winners at the Alabama State Council on the Arts Visual Achievement Program for high school students. Many of her students have attended college on scholarships awarded for the visual arts. Stacey’s art department also included an AP Drawing course that submitted portfolios for college credit.
Since leaving the classroom, she has maintained her love of the classroom by participating in the Alabama State Council on the Arts Collaborative Artist Program. The CAP program awards grants to local schools that assist in bringing in working artists to teach for four weeks. Stacey has had the pleasure of teaching at Greenville Elementary, McKenzie School and Pleasant Home School. This experience only enhances her love for the arts in central Alabama.
Stacey believes that the arts should be an integral part of every student’s education and enjoys creating cross-curricular activities that help children learn.
